testing..........testing...........

This week I met with my doctor and have had several tests. Doctor Moon agrees that bone sarcoma is very likely, but he also thinks that lymphoma is very probable. That would be great, because it would not require surgery. He also said that there is a very small chance that this is just a bone infection. Whatever it is, he said that it looks very aggressive. Since yesterday I've had blood work, chest x-rays, leg x-rays, and a CT scan. Tomorrow I get a whole body bone scan and another MRI. Still waiting on a biopsy appointment. If I stayed in California I still wouldn't have seen an oncologist, yet. Actually today would have been an appointment with a family physician. Who knows how long it would have taken to get as far as I have here.

I am extremely thankful for all of the people that are praying for me. Please remember to include my wife and kids in your prayers, also. I think this is harder on them than it is on me. I've done a lot of thinking about miraculous healing. Why don't we see more miracles? I touched on it a bit in my first blog, but I want some feedback about this. Maybe people don't get healed because God is giving the church a chance to show His love. I don't think that miracles have the same impact on our society that they used to, but love.......God's love always has an impact. To many in America, the church is the enemy. They don't trust us. Unfortunately, many have good reason. They don't need to hear about how God healed someone that they don't even know. They need to see love and be loved. This is a great time for the church to reach out and reshape it's image. The church is full of single mothers, widows, elderly, poor, sick, and hurting people. When you finish praying- get up and be someone's answer to prayer.

  1. Wow. that is an amazing perspective. that is so how the church should be - outward focused.

  2. You, my friend, are an inspiration. We should be providing the inspiration, yet you're going through this storm and are such a reflection of God in your attitude and perspective.

  4. Rob, a few people have asked about you and they type of person you are and this is what I have told them. Rob always sees a situation from a different perspective, your faith is one of simplicity. Over the years I've had a chance to listen to your words, hear your views and watch how you apply them. Nothing has ever been fake, no fronts, just simply "this is me". I've always known you to be someone who puts other people first, like the homeless guy at McDonald's that morning, and here you are doing it again as if I would have expected anything else. I do agree with you that people don't trust but as a whole they've had good reason. The miracles of Jesus were always about meeting the needs of others because He had countless chances to perform miracles that would benifit Him but CHOSE not to. Uncondititional love is the hardest love of all but as Cory put it, "an outward focus", is where we need to be. We don't need to be outward focused to get them the doors of our churches but get them inward focused so they can learn and grow and start changing the church into what it should be......a place and a people where we can connect, celebrate, take refuge, be loved and give love as Christ showed us. No hidden agenda's, pure and simple......LOVE. Thanks for doing this blog and sharing your heart and giving us a chance to love you and your family without condition. I am truly honored and blessed to call you friend, I love you and will continue to pray for your family, you and that all that come in contact with you will feel and see the love of God in your life.

Take care. I'm praying for you,

  5. Rob, I am a cousin, you and I are the same generation in the Duncan family. Our grandmothers, Leona and Mattie, were sisters. Your Mother and I are close to the same age and stay in touch.

My brother spent most of 2005 at MDA. He had a
Melanoma Mucosa. The type that he had is so rare that only about 10 cases a year are seen at MDA. He was told that it would come back and that the 5-year survival rate is LESS THAN
5 %. They told him it would come back and would kill him. My brother, Buster, was 52 at that time. He, too, had people praying for him all over the world and those same people are still praying. The cancer came back in March 2006. Another less invasive surgery got that lymph node. Since that time, he has been clean. He goes back in one month for another check-up. The DRS at MDA and in Dallas are calling Buster their "Miracle Man".

Buster gives all the credit to God and the power of prayer. Buster has always been a man who lives the book of James. If he tells you something, seriously, you can take it to the bank. His word is his bond. He always tell me to thank everyone who asks about him and to tell them "don't stop praying because prayer and our God are the reason that he is still here." He has fought his cancer with dignity and as a tribute to our Father.

I was in Houston with him and his family and spent a good deal of time with him at the hospital. He always thanked those taking care of him. Even the day after a 9 hour surgery he had his sense of humor.

His roping buddies put together a benefit roping and auction for him. Guys came from as far away as 300 miles to rope for him. Those cowboys had tears in their eyes when they signed a quilt for him.

Buster is well-loved, as you are. As you are trying to do in your circle of influence, Buster is continuing to give God the credit.
We, Buster and his family, and his doctors believe God has performed a miracle in Buster.

It is my hope and prayer that HE will do the same in you. Keep God in the fight with you.
I am praying for you, your wife and kids, your
    parents and your siblings.

I lost my husband to colon cancer with metastasis to the liver in 1997. It is hard on the wife and the family. Cancer and the battle is a family deal. The whole family is affected, especially if the family is close.

May our Father be with all of you, the entire family. My prayers are with you.

    With love,
    Ghronda

  6. Hi Rob,
We have never met...but Cathy Tucker e-mailed your message to me via FB. I have met some of your family over the years through New Life Community Church (formerly NBC)
I was truely touched by your message to others through your suffering. It is indeed a great privilege to suffer for the sake of Jesus. I am praying for you and your family...it IS a family ordeal.

I especially appreciated the ending of your thoughts...about being "someone's answer to prayer".
I recently gave up one of my favorite self-pamperings...having my nails done. I don't get a lot extra money to spend on myself, but thought that the nail money should be used on doing something for someone else in need. Again, it's not much, but it's what I have to offer. It might just be purchasing a small amount of groceries or buying a book for someone else, but it's outward focused. You realy confirmed in me that all sacrifice for Jesus is valuable, big or small. Thank You for sharing, you have helped me keep my focus on Jesus today.
My prayer for you is that our LORD of LORDS and KING OF KINGS will have mercy and grace on you and heal you of all disease In Jesus Name I pray.

  8. Rob,

You dont know me, but I know your parents well. Your dad married my husband and I thirteen years ago. I just wanted to tell you that Miracles DO happen.

I'm a living miracle. I had a horrible car crash in 2002 and was not expected to make it through the night. I suffered a traumatic head injury and had bleeding and swelling in the brain.

The doctors were able to stop the bleeding and swelling, but my brain was injured and left in the form of a child's understanding. I had to go through five months of rehabilitation and I had to re-learn everything. Today, it's like the crash never happened.

The doctors told me initially that I may never return to my profession as a CPA, but I went back to work full time as soon as my rehabilitation ended. As I began to see recovery, I would ask my doctor why I was able to do certain things that I wasnt able to do the previous week. The doctor said, "We call that spontaneous recovery, and we have no explanation as to why that happens". Of course, I knew why it was happening.

It's because of prayer and everyone's faith, including my own that God has healed me so perfectly. I have a few physical scars left as evidence that I actually went through all of that but I know that I am truly a miracle of God.

I will keep praying for you and your family and I want you to know that I do believe you will be healed and God WILL perform a miracle in your life too.
